Like a once-pristine crystal blue swimming pool that’s turned murky and green from neglect, much of our planet’s soil has been compromised over the years as the result of commercial farming that deprives the land of the precious minerals it needs to thrive or even survive.

Indeed, as commercial farmers continue to plow the soil, the ground becomes more prone to erosion by wind and water which in turn further removes vital minerals, nutrients and organic material. In addition, when crops are harvested as feed for animals, and when nutrients that have been removed aren’t replenished through fertilization, farmed land loses its ability to support healthy crops.
Irrigation and deforestation also contribute to soil deprivation, as do synthetic fertilizers.
Impact On Our Health
Unfortunately, as noted, when our soil is depleted of essential minerals, our bodies are as well. And this can lead to all kinds of health problems, including fatigue, muscle cramping, poor immune system functions, anxiety, lack of concentration, brittle bones (osteoporosis), constipation, bloating, infertility, anemia and loss of appetite, among other issues.
Happily, though, remedying mineral deficiency can be fairly easily accomplished. For example, many experts recommend that we eat organic foods grown on land that hasn’t been continuously farmed for decades and is therefore still mineral and nutrient rich. More generally, we should make sure our diet contains such high-mineral foods as nuts, beans, lentils, dark leafy greens, fish, seeds, mushrooms, whole grains, low-fat milk and yogurt, avocados, beef, lamb, tofu, dark chocolate and cheese.
